Ennui

So, tell me what you are thinking?

Well, today has been lived already
The pendulum has completed its cycle once more
The window displays a canvas stuck in time
As we wake up, work, sleep,
What for?

This meeting sounds like it’s happened already
Breakfast tastes as itself is unsure
The coffee roasts to a familiar smell
As we wake up, work, sleep,
What for?

The radio whirs into action
a ballad of feelings that sink into the floor
The news anchor repeats the tally for the day
As we wake up, work, sleep
What for?

Diagnosis: Devoured by ennui.

Inspiration

It was January 2021. We had just been placed into our third national lockdown. Every day felt like the same. Zoom meetings, supermarkets and my living room. The weather was depressing as any resemblance of daylight ceased by 3pm and the darkness engulfed us all. I was unmotivated and bored, devoured by Ennui. Something had to change.
