Perpetually Employed

I’m busy he yelled and persisted with life.
I’m busy he boasted opening his emails proudly.
I’m busy he shouted as his second line rang.
I’m busy he exclaimed as if others cared.
=
I’m busy she told her child, head immersed into her phone.
I’m busy she repeated, her mantra to get into the zone.
I’m busy she bragged, the promotion was in sight.
I’m busy she showed off as if others cared.

I’m free to see the world alas too much time has passed
=
I’m free to spend time with my children but busy they are
=
I’m free to live, maybe next time
=
If only I had not been busy for life…

Inspiration

It annoys me greatly when people tell me they are busy. We seem to love telling others how busy we always are. Being busy in my eyes is definitely not some medal to be paraded. I worked as a consultant for a couple of years and every single meeting was filled with individuals who loved to tell one another just how busy they were. It made me laugh, it seemed as if their own self worth was derived from the amount of meetings that clogged their calendars. Many of them had kids, I knew they were not spending enough time with them. We live in a world where most people prioritise work above all else. Me, I’d rather have a cup of tea with my grandmother, play tennis with friends or watch a sunset. I’m not busy at all.
