The Play of the Mind

The plot made no sense, the actors forgot their lines
The scenes jumped between genres and gone was the concept of time
Showings started at dusk on the days it came to floor
The patrons left confused as they exited the doors.

Critics penned their reviews but struggled to remember
If the show had taken place in early spring or mid December
One night only never to return
The play of the mind riddled with concern

They call it a dream, sometimes a nightmare
Hazy mostly but at times can be quite clear
An alternate universe that comes to life in sleep
A safe place of sorts to lie, die and cheat

We startle awake utterly confused
A dream interrupted by an iPhones snooze
One night only never to return
The play of the mind riddled with concern

Inspiration

I wrote this after a peculiar dream I had. I don’t remember it, but I remember waking up feeling as if i had lived a whole alternate life in my sleep. There was no structure and no sense of rationality. The mind is a weirdly wonderful place.
